"When tomorrow starts without me
Don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me
I'm right here, in your heart."

Shadow the Rat (2013--2015)
|
Type: Black Mismarked Irish Top-Eared Rat
Gender: Female Date of Passing: March 18, 2015 (aged 2 years, 1 month) Cause of Death: Post-surgery complications after lump excision Personality: Quiet, reserved, affectionate, gentle, loyal Appearance: Solid black with white on her left forepaw and two small patches of white on her belly shaped like an exclamation point; ears placed on the top of her head (top-eared) Summary: Shadow was the most reserved of the mischief, lacking the contrasting independence and audacity of her other group members. However, she was by far the most creative of the four when it came to learning/inventing tricks, and the manner in which she performed behaviours was always unique. Examples include her method of retrieving a ball (by rolling it with her nose as opposed to carrying it in her mouth) and walking a tightrope (using only her front legs instead of crossing it quadrupedally). Shadow shared a close bond with Suki and was rarely seen without her. |

Background: Viggo was adopted from a rescue in January 2012. His previous owners had been evicted from their home and they left him behind without a caretaker. Viggo was severely ill when he was taken in by the rescue, but with much TLC and superlative nutrition he was brought back to health. Viggo was the sweetest ferret with the kindest, gentlest soul. One can only wonder how anybody could neglect such an animal.
